2 types of wind turbines currently on the market:

1) The wind called "standards" with multiplier:

These wind turbines have a rotor which causes an electrical generator through a speed multiplier.

Equipment that suffers most in this type of installation is the multiplier as it supports changes in speed very brutal, passing within a few seconds to 25 rounds per minute to about 1000 revolutions per minute.

The major manufacturers are:

- Vestas, a world leader

- Nordex

- REpower

- Vergnet (french only manufacturer)

2) the wind so-called "direct attack":

Designed to eliminate the multiplier of the production of electricity, these include a wind turbine rotor, which is taken directly to a low speed generator with variable frequency.

Only 2 Historical manufacturers have entered this market:

- Enercon, the world leader, which produces up to 6 MW wind power

- Jeumont (now Areva JSPM) who decided to stop production of J48 with a capacity of 750 KW
